Blake for Working Families
Blake Townsend for House District 36
Taylorsville and West Jordan are diverse communities built by hardworking families. It's time to send someone to office who understands their challenges because they live them every day. As a young father raising a family, I've experienced the strain of the affordability crisis firsthand, from the rising costs of child care and housing to the growing challenges of providing for a family in today's economy.
These aren't just policy issues to me, they're the realities my family and our neighbors face every day.
Policies
Affordability
For too long, Utah's Legislature has focused on simply cutting taxes that results mostly in a benefit for those already doing extremely well, while working and middle-class families are left with fewer services and less support. It's time to tackle the affordability crisis head-on by investing in programs that strengthen all Utahns, not just those at the top.
Working Families First
Any family with full-time working adults shouldn’t be living paycheck to paycheck. It is fundamentally wrong that so many full-time working families are forced to choose which bills to pay and which hospital visits to skip, even when they have health insurance.
I fully recognize the biggest issue facing families in Utah is the rising cost of nearly everything. This is what I will consider with every vote I take: Will this policy help relieve the financial burden facing full-time working families?
Supporting Working People and Unions
I strongly support protecting and expanding the rights, protections, and pay for all working people across Utah. I will always support union workplaces, as they can provide better pay and greater stability for workers while giving employers a more reliable workforce that takes pride in their work. When everyone has a voice in the workplace, businesses and workers both succeed.
Protecting Wild Utah
The Great Salt Lake is on life support. We must act now by partnering with local and federal agencies, and private leaders to get water back into the lake before it becomes an unfixable economic and public health catastrophe.
Utah is a special place that must be protected for future generations. I will work to protect our outdoors, public lands, and parks!
